LL 2009 Mar - Session I - The Value of Counselling in the Workplace, by R Muller

In the first session R Muller takes us through an ever changing workplace and the demands it makes on the coping mechanisms staff members need to develop to perform in times of increased stress. He demonstrates that - especially in the early times of organisational change - a counsellor is better equipped to prepare staff for change than a coach. Nevertheless, very few organisations actually engage counsellers.

Knowledge is Power. We Know. So, why is it that some come up with brilliant visions and seem to lead effortless, whilst others struggle to steer the ship into a safe harbour?
Come and listen to practitioners that direct, lead, and coach others to direct and lead. Whilst we do not claim to know it all, we hope to give the newbee, the assistant, the upcoming
and the aspiring director something to determine
success or failure.

We trained hard, but it seemed that every time we were beginning to form up into teams, we would be reorganised.I was to learn later in life that we tend to meet any new situation by reorganising; and a wonderful method it can be for creating the illusion of progress while producing confusion, inefficiency and demoralisation. This session explains why some work groups and units are doomed to fail - and how to fix it. Many of these Lessions from the Field are also available on DVD.
